NH #546: Fukushima Radioactive Water Dump, Citizens Radiation Data Map of Japan + Pilgrim Radwater Release
Fukushima radioactive water dump: TEPCO plans to release 1,280,000 metric tons of tritium-contaminated radioactive water from Fukushima into the Pacific Ocean despite country-wide and international pushback.
This Week's SPECIAL Features:
Fukushima radioactive water dump - and more. This week focuses on the radiation dangers that Fukushima still poses - 1,280,000 metric tons of stored tritium-contaminated radioactive water that TEPCO plans to dump into the Pacific Ocean; and the citizen-science testing proram that revealed Fukushima contamination throughout Japan.
This week's guests are:
- Tim Deere-Jones is a UK-based independent Marine Pollution Researcher and Consultant. On September 15, for Nuclear Hotseat #534, he explained the radiological problems of dredging in the Bristol channel between the UK and Wales. Recently, he gave an online presentation on what it will mean if Tokyo Electric Power Company - TEPCO - is allowed to dump 1,280,000 gallons of radioactive tritium-contaminated waste water from Fukushima out of storage tanks and into the Pacific Ocean - an act which is being widely condemned around the world. His presentation was recorded for and disseminated by Yosomono-net: the worldwide anti-nuke network of Japanese people living abroad; the group has has given permission for Nuclear Hotseat to rebroadcast it. Here is the audio of the Tim Deere-Jones presentation, which was posted on Nov 21, 2021
- Mari Inoue of the Manhattan Project for a Nuclear-Free World is part of the team who worked on the English translation. Here, she explains how the data was collected, what it shows, and provides instruction for any community to duplicate this process to compile accurate radiation data in communities where contamination is suspected.
- Citizens’ Radiation Data Map of Japan DIGEST EDITION: Grassroots Movement Reveals Soil Contamination in Eastern Japan in the Wake of Fukushima! by the Minna-no Data Site reveals the deadly impact of the radioactivity released by the Fukushima Daiichi triple nuclear meltdown of March, 2011. 4,000 citizens took soil samples to capture the data that created the full 200-page book, written in Japanese, which won a major mainstream journalism award and is a “hot” seller in Japan.
- The English digital version is available on Amazon. It is free if you have KindleUnlimited.
- For residents in the US, the group can mail a booklet by first class mail.
- In the EU, it is available in French.
- As of March 2020, Minna no Data site allowed the free use of two maps from the booklet. For more details, click HERE.
